In his presidential declaration, Mori said men in the FSM have a shorter life expectancy than women (64-67) according to the FSM 2000 census, and he reminds the public about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the early detection of health problems should be a priority.
He said men and their family members should be involved in health activities and health promotion/prevention programs.
They should be good role models in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The president encourages all men to incorporate physical activities, healthy eating and annual health check-ups in their schedule.
In connection with the National Men’s Health Week, the Yap Department of Health Services has invited all men in the state, 18 years and older, to attend a series of health screening at the state hospital and community health centers on the islands during that period.
The department will conduct screenings for random blood sugar test for diabetes, blood pressure, oral exam, hemoglobin test, prostate check, STI testing and more.
Examinations will start from 9 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. each day for the whole week.
