Boat captain accused of stealing

Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a $10,000 bail on Dwight Lee DLG Aldan for his temporary liberty, 10 percent or $1,000 of which will be in cash and the remaining $9,000 in unsecured bond.

Assistant Attorney General George Hasselback appeared on behalf of the government.

Assistant Public Defender Richard Miller represented the defendant.

Wiseman placed the defendant under several conditions if he posts bail, including returning to court whenever required to do so and obeying all Commonwealth laws.

He must also surrender his travel documents, stay away from all seaports and airports and shall have no direct or indirect contact with the victims and witnesses.

Wiseman set the preliminary hearing for Aug. 3 and the arraignment for Aug. 10.

In his affidavit, Detective Christopher Leon Guerrero said the Department of Public Safety received a call reporting a burglary and theft incident at the Ocean View Hotel in Garapan at about 9:21 p.m. on July 7.

He said police officers who responded to the scene met Misayo Wakasuki, owner of the Wonder Sea Dive Shop at the second floor of the hotel.

Police found the cash register open and found a $20 bill on the floor. $30 cash was stolen but there were no signs of forced entry.

An employee of the hotel told police he saw a man using the telephone at the hotel lobby.

The employee said he also saw the same man go up to the second floor and go to the Wonder Sea Dive Shop through the footage of the surveillance camera.

He then called the owner of the dive shop.

Leon Guerrero said that another witness who saw the footages through the surveillance camera identified the defendant as the one who broke into the dive shop.

Eye witnesses said they saw the defendant walked toward the Dive Shop and opened the main door and then left the Dive Shop carrying several items.

Leon Guerrero learned that a dive instructor lost his set of keys for the main door of the dive shop when he escorted a group of divers to Managaha Island earlier.
