Zapantas, Manacop top July bowling tournament

Zapanta tallied 731 pinfalls breaking his winning record last month. He bowled a magnificent first game striking 209 pins.

Marion McKenzie slipped past him a bit in Game 2 but Zapanta soared in Games 3 and 4 to stay on top completing what seemed to be a de ja vu.

Like last month, McKenzie placed second totaling 645 pinfalls.

Troy Verdaguer whose game started slow with 98 pinfalls but consistently improved to 145 in Game 4 settled for third as he tallied 4 74 pin falls.

Zapanta won $15; McKenzie, $10 and Verdaguer $5.

In Ladies Division, Gigi Zapanta grabbed her first Budweiser Queen of the Lanes title this year as she tallied 715 pinfalls, besting 20 other female bowlers in the tournament.

Scoring 172 pinfalls, Gigi Zapanta was two bowlers behind May Queen of the Lane title holder, Gloria Omechelang who had 201 pinfalls. With her 165 pinfalls, she lagged again behind Lala Taitano (190) and Carol McKenzie (180) in Game 2.

Zapanta rebounded in Game 3 but still nine pinfalls short of beating Taitano until she gained ground in Game 4 scoring 186 pinfalls.

Taitano totaled 710 pinfalls and McKenzie, 673 pinfalls.

Zapanta went home with $75 cash prize; Taitano $40; and McKenzie $20.

Also making it to the top five were Gina Sablan who totaled 658 pinfalls and Jerrie Vales who tallied 635 pinfalls.

Simon Manacop who topped the May King of the Lanes won his second title this year as he tallied 867 pinfalls to win last Sunday’s tournament.

Raymond Zapanta tallied 859 pinfalls for the second place and Tony Verdaguer settled for third with 787 pinfalls.

Manacop won $85; Zapanta, $40 and Verdaguer, $20.
