CUKI Alvarez climbed to the top of the food chain in the veterans class of the 2022 MRA Points Race Series by showcasing a perfect 50-point run Sunday at Cow Town Raceway Park.
Last season, it was Dave Celis who ruled the scene with several first place highlights.
This time around, Alvarez went full throttle in both heats of the race.
In heat 1, he blew through the starting gate and never looked back as he led the pack all the way to the finish line, earning 25 points.
It was no different in the second heat as he cleared the course for another first place finish to secure the overall top spot with a total of 50 points.
In second place was Dave Celis who trailed closely behind Alvarez in both heats to earn a total of 44 points.
Champi Villacanes finished third with 40 points; Melvin Cepeda was fourth, 36 points; Julian Salalila, fifth, 32 points; Glen Pangelinan, sixth, 30 points; Charles Cepeda, seventh, 27 points; and Ray Yumul, eighth, 27 points. Charles Cepeda had a higher second heat score than Yumul.
Expert open
Cuki Alvarez also competed in the expert open class but was bested by his son Shane Alvarez who topped both heats for a perfect 50-point finish.
Cuki had to settle for second place with 44 points while Shane’s older brother Alverick Alvarez finished third with 40 points.
The rest of the top nine were Ellery Cruz (36 points), Champi Villacanes (31 points), Patrick Togawa (30 points), Dave Celis (28 points), Melvin Cepeda (27 points) and Charles Cepeda (24 points).
Novice
As for the novice class, Joseph Santos emerged victorious with a total of 47 points. Despite finishing second in heat 2, he was first overall thanks to his strong showing in heat 1.
Ethan Yumul finished first in heat 2, but was third in heat 1. He ended in second place overall with a total of 45 points.
The rest of the top 11 were Aric Cruz with 42 points, Bob Ferrer (36 points), Keoni Macaranas (32 points), Leonel Masga (28 points), Frankie Sablan (27 points), Cory Llagas (27 points), Maribel Igitol (26 points), Ponce Rasa (22 points), and Stanley Iakopo II (10 points).
Intermediate
In the intermediate class, Corry Pangelinan stole the show with a flawless 50-point performance.
Tristan Sablan snagged the overall second place spot when he finished second in heat 2 to edge Henry Camacho Jr. Both earned 42 points.
The rest of the top six were Melvin Cepeda with 36 points, Byron Castro (32 points), David Camacho (28 points), AJ Llagas (15 points), Joel Camacho (14 points) and Bruce Camacho (12 points).
