17th Law Enforcement Academy begins

The Academy started on January 22 and will run for 13 weeks.

The Academy will end in September 22.The Academy is under the command of Detective Lt. Aloysius Alonz and is assisted by Officers Dolyn Tell, Nicole Malsol and Byron Wong.Alonz said there are about 40 cadets and they are from Bureau of Public Safety, Division of Customs, Bureau of Agriculture, Bureau of Marine Resources, Division of Labor, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco Products Control, House of Delegates, Koror State Rangers, Koror State Sanitation, Peleliu State Rangers, Ngaremlengui State Government and Ngiwal State Government.There are also other private individuals who enrolled to the Academy.BPS Director Norvert Yano in a separate press statement said that the Academy will cover a range of topics beginning with an orientation week, which will acquaint the cadets with the Goals and Objectives of the Academy and the BPS.Yano said the curriculum is structured to expose the cadets to basic policing, investigating, security and law enforcement skills that will provide the foundation for entry level in careers in law enforcement, security and investigations.The Academy aims to build and strengthen networks, partnerships and alliances between the various law enforcement agencies, the private sector and state governments to enhance working relationships and cooperation for Palau.Yano added that a rigorous daily Physical Fitness Training Program is also a prerequisite for the successful completion of the Academy.Classroom lectures are held at the Academy classroom at the Palau Community College campus.Lectures and activities will be provided by representatives from BPS, Office of the Special Prosecutor, Office of the Attorney General, Bureau of Immigrations, Division of Labor, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco Products Control (ABTPC), National Emergency Management Office (NEMO), the Ombudsman, Bureau of Foreign Affairs and Victims of Child Abuse (VOCA).
