NMC names new dean for Academic Programs and Services

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Cyndi to the College’s management team,” said NMC President Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will have a significant and direct impact on the quality of education and the services we provide to our students.”

Deleon Guerrero is also the first individual with Carolinian ancestry to serve as a College dean, a top-level position at the College.

In her new role, Deleon Guerrero will oversee six academic departments and ensure that the quality of education provided at NMC sufficiently meets students’ academic and professional needs. She will also be charged with leading department chairs and faculty and staff members in the unit’s program and curriculum evaluation, improvement, and development efforts. Further, she will help establish instructional priorities, develop multi-year instructional plans, and have a key role in strategic academic planning for the institution.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to serve as the next dean of Academic Programs and Services,’’ said Deleon Guerrero.  “I hope to build on the strong momentum established by the College community and look forward to working with all faculty, staff, and students in advancing the mission of the College.”

As director of the School of Education, Deleon Guerrero led all program review and outcomes assessment activities, and ensured that the school, which confers bachelor degrees in elementary education, complied with accreditation standards from both the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges and the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities.

“Cyndi has gained the College community’s respect for her mentorship and her guidance, especially in the area of program review and assessment,” added President Fernandez. “I am very confident that the Academic Programs and Services Division will thrive under her leadership.”

Prior to serving as director of the School of Education, Deleon Guerrero also worked as the director of the Office of Admissions and Records, where she managed the College’s comprehensive admissions operations, recruitment activities, and registration system. She had also served as vice principal, counselor, and teacher for the CNMI Public School System.

Deleon Guerrero earned her associate and bachelor’s degree from the Northern Marianas College. She received her master’s degree in education from Framingham State College in 2008.
