The bloody incident shocked CNMI delegates who were already here when they saw the news.
Walter Macaranas, one of the CNMI Little League officials said that from their windows of Sultan Hotel where they stayed for one week and three days, they can see the Ritz-Carlon Hotel and JW Mariot.
They were 56 of them, including the two teams—CNMI Junior and Senior All Stars—who went to Jakarta, Indonesia last month for the Asia-Pacific Regional Little Baseball Tournament which CNMI won the Junior League title.
Macaranas said he was shocked to see the news and he immediately contacted their friends in Jakarta including the Eko Katoh, the Little League district administrator there, to check if he and their other friends were doing okay.
Their friends in Jakarta, Macaranas said thanked him for checking on them.
Saipan Little League President Mike Borja was also chocked to see the news. At the same time, he felt very fortunate that he and the CNMI Little Leaguers are already home when it happened.
“Can you imagine if we were still there when it happens?” Borja asked, adding that he was shocked while he was watching the news.
