Teenager who threw rocks at police gets six-day jail term

Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona gave credit to Jaswin Peter a.k.a. Jaswin Mesik, 18, for the time he served in jail from Feb. 2 to 7.

She placed him on probation for the balance of the suspended sentence under the supervision of the Office of Adult Probation.

Peter was ordered to pay a court assessment fee of $25 within 30 days and an annual probation fee of $100. He was told to report to the Probation Office on July 29.

Peter must return to court for a review hearing on Oct. 28, 2009.

The court further ordered that the $200 cash bail Peter posted shall be exonerated and applied toward the court assessment fee and probation fee.

Peter entered into a plea agreement with the government on July 29 assisted by Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke.

Assistant Attorney General Matthew H. Meyer represented the government. Peter pled guilty to one count of assault and battery as charged in the information filed on Feb. 10, 2009.

In exchange, the Commonwealth agreed to dismiss with prejudice the other charge for assault.

The Attorney General’s Office charged Peter with assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.

In his affidavit, Detective Simon T. Manacop stated that police responded to a disturbance incident at David Store in Koblerville at around 1:01 a.m. on Feb. 2.

Police met the victim identified as Zhen Cai at the scene.

The victim told police that one of the two males, later identified as Peter who were standing across from his store punched him on the face.

When police drove behind the two males, Peter ran away.

He came back later with two fist-sized rocks but ran away again when ordered to put the rocks down.

While he was being chased, Peter stopped a few yards away and taunted the police to chase him further.

Peter then threw the two rocks at the police who had to dodge to avoid being hit. Other police officers then arrested Peter.
