I am worried for those people who consistently say “I am bored.” Boredom, as far I am concerned, is a relevant indication of insignificance and lack of purpose. I cannot help but think that that a person who says he or she is bored either feels that whatever he or she is doing or participating in is not necessary and that someone or something is making him or her do it; or that he or she cannot see or comprehend the purpose of the activity. I really do not think that boredom can be self-inflicted – that is, a sane person simply cannot dive into ennui.
I have talked to a number young people who seem to think that their lives are boring – I do hope that the term is used inappropriately and that they lack the vocabulary to say otherwise. Still, it seems that many young people have knowingly indicated that they are bored; and experts – after reviewing a myriad of unconsolidated youth statistics and results youth surveys – have concluded that more organized and age-appropriate youth activities would most likely entice the youth out of kingdom bore. I have doubts. In any case, rest assured that I have crossed paths with boring people (usually people who are either too encroached in their work that they forget that they are still human or people who have a tendency to have others think for them) and likewise, boring activities; but I was not bored. I have enjoyed participating in activities with boring people – at the very least, they provided opportunities for my brain cells to explore the depths of imagination. You and I, though I would have preferred that it is not real, have been boring more than thrice. I know some of what you and I chatter about may be trivial to a number of people, but then again, some do get tickled enough to stand and say “you are boring” – a statement I am elated to hear. I hope everyone would be brave enough to say it all the time instead of ‘I am bored.’You and I must work together to convince others that it is not acceptable to indulge in boredom or to promote its incorporation by continually exercising activities that are boring to begin with. We must try and persuade each and every person to believe that he or she is important; and we must attempt to create activities – within our means, of course – which the people value and truly believe have meaning. It does not make sense to have people engage in activities that are of no value to them; and further, activities that deviate from our values will certainly spell wasted time and effort – and the very people that the activities were aimed at would be labeled uncooperative and misguided. You must have been labeled uncooperative and misguided. I am extremely happy for you. I urge you to continue to be misguided. Maybe then, someone would figure out a way to bore you to death – if possible. Don’t be bored!
