Four arrested in islands’ biggest ‘ice’ haul to appear in court today

Biao Huang, Sheng Lian and Chun Mei Lin are scheduled for a preliminary hearing this morning, while Ya Bin Huang is set to appear in court this afternoon.

On Thursday, Ya Bin Huang was arrested after he tried to leave the island.

Huang had purchased a one way plane ticket to China via Busan, Korea.

Huang has been charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Designated Federal Judge David A. Wiseman imposed no bail during the defendant’s initial appearance late on Thursday afternoon and set the preliminary hearing at 2:30p.m. today.

Based on the affidavit of Drug Enforcement Administration special agent Daniel G. Holcomb, Huang’s arrest came following recorded telephone calls on Aug. 12-28, 2008 with a confidential source.

Holcomb said  it was Huang who provided 14.1 grams of ice to  Chun Mei Lin who sold the drug to a confidential source for $6,000 in Chalan Kanoa on Aug. 29, 2008.

Lin was arrested early on Tuesday last week by local Immigration officers.

She had bought a one-way plane ticket to China.

Holcomb stated that Huang was Lin’s driver when they were stopped by traffic officers after Lin sold  14.1 grams of ice.

Huang showed the traffic officers a driver’s license and they were released.

Huang was also found carrying $1,300 cash.

DEA agents arrested two other ice trafficking suspects on Monday last week — Biao Huang and Sheng Lian who tried to sell 947 grams of ice to a confidential source and an undercover FBI agent at a hotel room in Susupe. The ice were placed in small ziplock bags and stashed inside a diaper.

A total of 1,021.4 grams of ice worth $510,000 was  seized prior to the arrest of the four defendants.
