Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Sports and Recreation Director Joe Lizama said the repairs that the two ball fields have been waiting for too long finally came due to generosity of Tan Holding Corp., who donated $12,900.
Yesterday, workers from Reliance Construction Inc., started the job.
Rene Abergas, a carpenter started measuring the pipe braces that supports the deteriorating roof of Tange ball field’s bleachers.
Lizama said the dug outs of both ball fields are in dire need of repair and repainting. The roof and the concrete seats of the two sets of Tange and Tanko ball fields have to be renovated and the press boxes also need proper attention.
The cyclone wires of the Tanges’ front fence need replacement too.
Lizama said Tan Holdings’ donation is very timing since annual scholastic fast and slow pitch softball will move ahead as soon as the school year begins.
The Saipan Major League and the Saipan Little League will start in February next year but it would be better that the Tanko field is repaired because many of its portions especially the bleachers need improvements.
Once the repairs are done, Lizama said the Tan Holdings employees and the Sports and Recreation staff will join together for the finishing touch.
