They caught over 10 pounds Napoleon rush as they sailed the ocean from Guam Fishermen’s Cooperative dock along with 16 other teams from the region.
Members of Team Guam who caught over 30 pounds giant trevaly won the first prize.
Asai said he still considers it their big win since they managed to brave the rough water and strong current brought about by the bad weather.
The reefs also were too gray to spot the catch, making the Marianas Spearfishing Challenge, very competitive.
He added that the sharks that kept coming to him also made the Challenge, very challenging, because fish presence wasn’t really good when sharks are around.
After winning the Challenge, Team Guam, Asai said is now getting ready for 2010 Micro Games in Palau.
He hopes that Saipan spearfishing teams can join and win the title.
