CUC has installed prepaid meter at three residential houses on a trial basis, he added.
“There’s no problem to date and the clients still come in to buy their prepaid cards. They are now very conscious of their power consumption,” he said.
Prepaid meter will allow customer to monitor their usage and manage their consumption accordingly, he added.
After successfully testing the system, Muna said CUC is now in the process of formulating regulations while it continues to get more information regarding the challenges the program may face.
He believes that the prepaid meter system is very good for customers.
CUC wants all its clients to have prepaid meters but these cannot serve high energy users, Muna said.
“We can only serve those using regular power usage or single phase type power like a residential-type house or a single family dwelling,” Muna said.
Tokens are needed by those who use a prepaid meter.
Upon purchase of the tokens, the customer will enter his PIN code on an interface unit connected by a power cord to a main outlet of a household.
The consumer purchases credit and then uses electricity until such time as the credit expires.
The consumer can at any time purchase more credit for the system.
Muna said the installation of prepaid meter will be a great advantage to CUC because it will no longer need to send bills to customers and meter readers to the field.
