FSM announces result of renaming contest

As part of the revival of the National Union, the PIO sponsored a renaming contest and during May and June, the general public sent in proposed name changes.

Then, in July, the PIO posted the options for the new names that had been submitted and allowed readers to vote for the name they would like to see the National Union take on.

Here is a tally of the votes that were cast:

1. FSM Catch — 2 votes

2. FSM Focus —1

3. FSM Journal — 1

4. FSM Press — 4

5. FSM Times — 2

6. MicroSpace — 1

7. National Union — 22

8. Palikir Press — 2

9. The Federation — 1

10. The FSM Four Star News — 3

11. The National Reporter — 3

12. Voices of the FSM — 2

The majority of votes were cast in favor of keeping the name the same.

Most people who voted to keep the “National Union” as the name pointed to the historical aspect that it holds.

The Public Information Office will pass this information on to FSM President Manny Mori for his approval, and, in the meantime, will continue to publish the biweekly newsletter to help keep the general public informed on some of the top news stories coming out of the PIO.
