But Toribiong said he has reservations about the proposed age range of the youth congress members — from 14 to 25 years old.
He said 14 is too young while persons who are 25 can already run for national office.According to Senate Bill 8-34, the youth congress will make recommendations to the national legislature, the Olbiil Era Kelulau, “regarding pertinent legislation and…coordinat[e] with international, regional, sub-regional, and national and state government agencies with youth programs, to better streamline the implementation of the Palau National Youth Policy of the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs.”The youth congress will be composed of three representatives from Koror, two from Airai, and one representative from each of the other states, to be selected by their respective governors.There will be one representative from each public and each private school, except that any school with over 500 students will have two representatives.Representatives selected from schools will be selected in accordance with election or selection rules established by their schools, and vacancies willl be filled in the same manner.Palau Community College will have three representatives.
