Thieves steal copper wire from Susupe beach pavilions

Department of Public Safety acting spokesman Jason T. Tarkong said the copper wire stolen had an estimated value of $5,500, including labor expenses

Tarkong said at 8:08 a.m. on Aug. 28, DPS  dispatched police officers to the Susupe Regional Park to respond to a reported copper wire theft incident.

Tarkong said Police Officer Rudolfo Hermosilla met with the complainant and learned that the suspects had removed the electrical wiring from all four pavilions including the main circuit breaker from the stage.

He said  Hermosilla interviewed the contractor, RPM Corp., and learned that the day before, the contractor was there with an employee of the Division of Parks amnd Recreation to survey the site.

Hermosilla said “everything was in place” then.

On Friday morning, the contractor arrived at the scene to meet with Commonwealth Utilities Corp. personnel to hook up the power.

He discovered, however, that the wires were pulled out from the pipes from all four pavilions and the main breaker switch box was disconnected and pulled out.

DPS is asking members of the community to call NMI Crime Stoppers Hotline at 234-7272 if they have any information about this crime.

All calls are kept anonymous, no caller ID is used and a reward of up to $1,000 will be given to any information which will lead to an arrest.
