Jury selection begins for man who stabbed woman last year

The selection of jurors started yesterday morning and continued in the afternoon in the courtroom of Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja.

John Vincent M. Namauleg was arrested in Februay last year for stabbing Yahui Tian with a knife in the bathroom of the employees’ barraks of Uno Moda Garments.

Police found the victim with a knife still lodged in her nape.

Doctors at the Commonwealth Health Center had to remove the knife in an operation.

 The victim’s left side of the body was paralyzed after she sustained three stab wounds on the left collar, on the right side of her neck and on her spinal cord.

Namauleg was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, disturbing the peace, and contempt of court.

Detective Juan M. Santos stated in an affidavit that the victim just arrived from church and was about to take a bath.

The victim’s roommates saw the defendant through the bathroom’s open door sitting on the victim.

The defendant who was wearing dark short pants and no shirt ran away when the witnesses shouted for help.

Police arrested Namauleg on Feb. 9, 2008 after investigations disclosed he forged and cashed checks that had been stolen from the Neo Fashion Inc. garment factory. He was later released on bail.

In March 2006, the defendant also entered a guilty plea to theft and forgery charges.

He was placed on probation which ended on Jan. 30, 2008.
