Akiko Miller retains female 10km title

AKIKO Miller successfully defended her title in the female division of the 10km pathway event hosted by the Triathlon Association of the CNMI on Saturday morning at the Kilili Pavilion.

She finished first with a recorded time of 00:43:58.

The course was from the Kilili Pavilion to the turnaround point at the Garapan basketball court and then back to the pavilion for the finish line.

“I ran at a good pace,” Miller told Variety. She added that throughout the race, she shadowed Sildrey Veloria who finished second in the male division.

The toughest part for Miller was not the crowd that she had to weave through at the Saturday market but the last three kilometers of the course.

Still, with a time of 4:25 per mile, Miller said she was happy with her performance as she also beat her  record last year of 00:50:12.

In second place in the female division was Evelyn Pangelinan who clocked 00:52:21 followed by Rosemarie Chisato with a time of 00:54:26.

In the male division, Kosuke Sato topped the charts with a finish time of 00:42:04. Sildrey Veloria was second at 00:43:53 while Daniel Stutzman came in third at 00:48:36.
