Sentencing today of man in ‘ice’ trafficking

Munson granted on Thursday a stipulated request to continue the hearing and a stipulated request to continue the revocation hearing in connection with the case of Manuel Aldan Sablan.

“The parties…hereby respectfully request that the court continue the revocation hearing in this matter…for the reason that counsel for both parties are still in discussion regarding the defendant’s other pending criminal case,” stated the stipulated request to continue the revocation hearing.

The stipulated request to continue sentence hearing stated that “this…is made for the reason that counsel for both parties are still in negotiations regarding sentencing recommendations.”

Sablan entered a guilty plea to the charges filed against him for one count of distribution and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

The court accepted the plea agreement and referred Sablan to the U.S. Probation Office.

Sablan’s offense carries a maximum sentence of 30 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $2,000,000, a special assessment fee of $100 and a minimum supervised release of six years.

Records showed that on Dec. 1, 2007, a small plastic bag with a crystalline substance was taken from the possession of Sablan during a buy-bust operation.

The substance was then submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice’s southwest laboratory for chemical analysis.

A qualified forensic chemist said crystalline substance weighing 100 net milligrams was 91 percent pure “ice.”

Sablan was arrested with Gregory Sablan Kalen and Lawrence Sablan Kalen on April 24, 2008.

According to the indictment, the defendants conspired to distribute ice from Dec. 1 to Dec. 13, 2007.
