“We hope that August sales for brand new cars, which posted about 40 percent increase compared to the sales for the same month last year, could be a sign of the rise in consumer confidence on island,” Triple J Motors general manager Randy Steele told the Variety.
Triple “J” Motors and the other two dealers — Joeten Motors and Microl Corp. — sold a total of 60 brand new cars and 30 used cars in August. Only 43 brand new cars were sold in the same month last year.
Triple “J” Motors led last month’s sales for brand new cars with 27 cars sold, representing a 45 percent of the total market share. Microl Corp. followed with 19 brand new cars sold, claiming a market share of 31.67 percent. Joeten Motors sold 14 cars, representing 23.33 percent of the market share.
Steele said a big factor for their increased sales last month was the company’s Outrageous Outlander Liquidation Sale.
He said Triple “J” Motors received 15 Outlanders during the first week of August and all units were sold by the 15th of the month.
“Of our 27 new vehicles sold, three were ‘fleet’ sales to a corporate car rental customer while 24 were retail, sold to individual consumers,” Steele said.
Last month’s brisk sales resulted in fewer displays at Triple “J” Motor, but Steele said a new inventory is already in transit or in production and scheduled to arrive this month and next month.
The latest report from the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association showed that the three car dealers sold a total of 292 brand new cars from January to August, a 36 percent decrease compared to the 453 sold during the same period last year.
August sales for brand new cars included 23 sedans, 10 trucks, three vans and 24 sport utility vehicles.
From January to August, the three dealers sold a total number of 272 used cars.
Microl Corp. led the sales for used cars with 109 units, Joeten Motors had 82 while Triple “J” sold 81.
Joeten Motors is the island’s distributor of Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia. Microl Corp. is the local dealer of Toyota and Chevrolet, while Triple “J” Motors sells Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki and Mazda.
