But Lourdes “Sister Lulu” Caringal, 65, passed away on Sept. 24, or less than a month after she retired from Philippine government service.
An active member of the Catholic charismatic group El Shaddai and a deaconess at Mt. Carmel Cathedral, Caringal will be missed by the community and the Philippine Consulate General where she worked for 12 years as consular officer.
“She prayed for us all,” Consul Belinda M. Ante said. “We have a lot of good memories about her.”
Ante said Caringal told her before she left the CNMI that she would return to do something for the church.
Philippine Consul General Medardo Macaraig met Caringal at the Department of Foreign Affairs before he was assigned to the CNMI.
According to Macaraig, Caringal “said a lot of good things about Saipan and she wanted me to be assigned here.”
He added, “She was part of the team that delivered services to the Filipino workers on island.”
Her remains lay in state at the Holy Trinity Memorial Chapel in Sucat, Parañaque, Metro Manila before they were transferred to her residence in Bauan, Batangas, a province south of Manila, on Sunday, Sept. 27.
A Mass was offered for the repose of her soul at the Mt. Carmel Cathedral.
