Air gun regulation measure passed on 2nd reading

Senate Bill No. 8-57 introduced by Sen. Hokkons Baules calls for the creation of standards for the proper use of air guns.

 The proposed measure requires owners of air gun to register it with the Bureau of Public Safety.Under the measure,  it was proposed that a registrant would have to pay a fee of $10  Any person violating the provisions of the bill would be subject to a fine of not more than $200.00, imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or both, the measure said. The measure also sets a minimum age for ownership, possession, or use of an air gun should be 18, not 25.It also recommended that for the purpose of tracking and preservation of wildlife, the Committee finds that any animal killed with an air gun should be reported to the Division of Fish and Wildlife Protection.The measure has now been passed on second reading before the Senate.The measure further stated that on the approval  of the application for registration, the BPS  shall issue a license for the air gun, which shall include the air gun’s manufacturer, model name, serial number or other identifying information, and any other information it deems by regulation to be appropriate.The measure also proposed that “a person who kills an animal with an air gun, regardless of whether the air gun is registered pursuant to this Act, shall report the species, size, weight, of the animal to the Division of Fish and Wildlife Protection. By regulations promulgated pursuant to Section 5 of this Act, the Bureau of Public Safety may require additional reporting requirements.” The measure also proposed that a person using or otherwise in possession of an air gun not registered pursuant to this Act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not more than $200,  imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or both.
