CUC cleans up water storage tanks

Recently, he said, CUC’s water and wastewater division completed the regular cleanup of its 10 water tanks.

The other five water tanks were scheduled for cleanup last year.

During this operation, water personnel check the integrity of each tank, he said.

Each water tank can store 500,000 to one million gallons of water.

The life span of most water tanks in Saipan is 20 years, but every five year CUC conducts a cleanup process, which includes the disinfection of the tank and testing water samples, Lebria said.

He said a water outage will be scheduled whenever they conduct a cleaning operation.

This is necessary to protect treated stored water and provide improved overall water quality for public consumption, he added.

“This work enables the water division to comply with the federal stipulated orders concerning drinking water operations and maintenance in correcting major sanitary deficiencies cited during storage tank inspection,” he said.

He said rainwater catchments/water tanks should be cleaned and their float valves installed or replaced to ensure that water does not overflow.

Yesterday, one of the two water tanks in Rota was cleaned up, he added.
