Guam: $52M in the bank already

BBMR recently released the government of Guam’s 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Fund Report for the quarter ending June 30.

“Our government has received over $52 million in ARRA grants as of June 30, 2009,” said BBMR Director Bertha Duenas. “These funds will definitely boost Guam’s revenue stream over the near term and continue through 2012.”

Gov. Felix Camacho said the cooperation of all government entities was a success given the fact that there was a short window to bring together everyone to identify and release as many shovel-ready projects as possible.

“The ARRA funding we have received thus far will go toward improving government services for our people, and the report shows exactly where the money is going,” the governor said.

Multiple local government departments have received stimulus funding.

The Attorney General’s Office applied for and received $212,000 for the Victims of Crime Act Victim Assistance Formula Grant Program.

The Bureau of Statistics and Plans applied for $6.305 million and received more than $1 million for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. Sub-recipients of that grant are the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, the Unified Judiciary of Guam and the AGO.

The Department of Education applied for $87.984 million, receiving nearly $734,000.

Almost $662,000 was provided to the STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program.

The Guam Council of the Arts & Humanities received $25,000; and the Guam Energy Office received $2 million to be used for the State Energy and the Weatherization Assistance Program.
