DUNG Tenorio won the 2021 Ace of Aces title of the Amigos Golf Club with a net score of 136 at the Kingfisher Golf Links following a two-day tournament last month.
On the first day, Dec. 4, the December Ace found his grip early and held a steady swing throughout the golf course.
He recorded two birdies, 13 pars and three bogeys to end with a gross of 73. Even with a handicap of 5, his net score of 68 was more than enough to put him ahead.
A member of the CNMI golf team in the upcoming 2022 Pacific Mini Games, Tenorio remained focused as the tournament resumed on Dec. 5.
His output consisted of two birdies, 12 pars and two bogeys for a gross of 73, a net score of 68, and a net total of 136 which gave him the Ace of Aces title of the 2021 season.
“I had some birdies but it was a tough round because the guys I was playing with were really good as well,” Tenorio said in an interview. “I was not sure how it was going to end up until the last two holes.”
As for winning the overall title, he said: “It’s not an easy thing to do with the Amigos. It’s a good accomplishment…because these guys are tough so you really have to play well and you have to be consistent. It’s always nice to win this trophy.”
In second place was the May Ace of the Month Janet Torres whose net total was 141 while finishing third was November Ace of the Month Ned Norita who played well on day-one with a net score of 67 on the front nine. Unfortunately, he struggled on the back nine, obtaining a net score of 76 which gave him a net total of 143.
The rest of the top eight were April Ace Joe Sablan Jr. with a net total of 145, June Ace Rick Sablan (147), July Ace Dave Jones (149), October Ace Ben Jones Jr. (151), and March Ace Ben Jones Sr. (159).
Hall of Famer
During the Amigos Golf Club awards banquet on Friday at the Rendezvous Restaurant, Tenorio requested for a photo with the club’s oldest member, Hall of Famer Joe Sablan Sr.
When asked why, Tenorio replied: “He’s one of the few guys who used to play golf with my grandfather. I really enjoy playing with him because there’s not a lot of golfers from their generation that are still around. He reminds me a lot of my grandfather.”
Tenorio is a grandson of pioneering local businessman Jose “Joeten” Tenorio.
