(CHCC) — 58 cases have been confirmed positive for Covid-19, bringing the CNMI total to 3,392 cases since March 28, 2020. The individuals have been isolated and are actively monitored.
As of Dec. 28, 2021, there had been 2,498 recoveries, 588 active cases, and 15 deaths of the cases identified since Oct. 28, 2021.
As of Jan. 4, 2022, there were 13 individuals hospitalized as a result of Covid-19 (7 unvaccinated, 5 vaccinated, 1 partially vaccinated; 2 on a ventilator); and 1 was discharged.
“Please seek care or test early if you are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, as you may be eligible for monoclonal antibodies or other new drugs that are given soon after infection,” CHCC said.
CHCC also continues to encourage the community to get vaccinated if they have not done so, or get their booster shot if they are eligible to help prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death. Data from small clinical trials show that vaccine effectiveness against Covid-19 infection is waning after the primary series, but protection remains high against severe disease and hospitalization, CHCC said.
Unvaccinated individuals are at risk of serious illness from Covid-19, and unvaccinated individuals spread the virus at a higher rate than vaccinated individuals, thereby increasing the spread and risk of serious illness toward other unvaccinated individuals, CHCC added.

Of the 58 new cases, 56 were identified on Jan. 3, 2022, 1 on Jan. 2, 2022, and 1 on Dec. 31, 2021; 20 were identified via contact tracing, 32 were identified via community testing, and 6 were identified via travel testing.
The vaccination statuses of the 58 cases identified are pending verification.
A total of 360 Covid-19 vaccine shots were administered on Jan. 4, 2022, resulting in 95.7% of the CNMI’s eligible population being fully vaccinated, which affords the community more protection against severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
Since Oct. 28, 2021, there have been 3,101 new cases, of which 1,528 were identified via contact tracing, 1,492 were identified via community testing, and 81 were identified via travel testing.
A total of 577 Covid-19 tests were conducted on Jan. 3, 2022, which comprises travel and surveillance testing but does not include DFEMS testing.
