LIEUTENANT Gov. Arnold I. Palacios on Tuesday commended the Department of Lands and Natural Resources on the recent completion of the Rota West Harbor Marina Rehabilitation Project.
He congratulated DLNR Secretary Anthony T. Benavente, DFW Director Manny M. Pangelinan, and DFW Boating Access Program Supervisor Vicente A. Camacho for “taking charge of a worthy project and seeing it through from start to finish.”
Palacios likewise recognized Rota DLNR resident director David Calvo and his staff, as well as the DLNR and DFW staff, for assisting in the removal and installation of the Rota West Harbor Marina Docking system.
“This is a major accomplishment. Congratulations on a job well done, and thank you,” the lt. governor said.
With the project now complete and a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for today, Jan. 27, the people of Rota will soon be able to reap the benefits of the project through such activities as recreational boating, he added.
“After encountering several devastating storms to include a super typhoon and other territorially declared disasters, the repairs associated with these storms are now finally complete and the marina is now in a better position to withstand the weather-related effects that have plagued this harbor for so long,” Palacios said.
“With the completion of the Rota West Harbor Marina Rehabilitation Project, the municipality looks to maximize its use for future events, such as fishing derbies, or to accommodate temporary berthing or transient passengers arriving from either Guam, Saipan, Tinian, or other neighboring islands.
Palacios also recognized the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services-Wildlife Sport Fish Restoration Program, Region 1 for funding this project under the Boating Access Program.
“Without your continued collaboration, partnership, and support, this project would not be possible. We always welcome and value your partnership. Thank you and congratulations to you as well,” he said.
