RUN Saipan will hold its Laolao Bay Dash and Splash 5K 2022 on Saturday, Jan. 22.
The event was originally set for November 2021, but was postponed.
In an interview, Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said they wanted to open the new year with a unique event. “Well, it’s in the name — Dash and Splash! We wanted to start the year with a splash! Better now than never — it was the last in-person 5k we had scheduled.”
He said the idea for the event came from Run Saipan board member Robin Sapong while treasurer Dr. Ron Snyder came up with the name.
Sapong wanted to do a “run, throw, jump” event while Snyder suggested the name “Dash and Splash.”
“Participants will make a dash for the route and, if they want to, dive into the East Bay at the end for the finish,” Dela Cruz said.
He added that jumping into the East Bay will not be a finish requirement and is optional.
The race will begin at 6:30 a.m. There is a $5 fee for non-Run Saipan members.
Membership applications will be given out and accepted at the Run Saipan assembly at 5 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 21, at Oleai Bar & Grill.
Run Saipan’s Fun Run team members cross the finish line of Northern Marianas Athletics’ Christmas Island Relay on Dec. 18, 2021 at the Last Command Post.
