LOW District Car Club Saipan on Tuesday afternoon donated a variety of children’s toys to the “Toys for Tots” program, an initiative coordinated and organized by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
Present for the gift-giving were members of the car club, U.S. Marines, representatives of the Associated Students of Northern Marianas College and the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, which spearhead the program in the CNMI, and Bank of Saipan which hosted the event.
The car club chose to donate the toys at the Bank of Saipan headquarters in Oleai, having already established a relationship with the bank in its previous community events.
Low District Car Club Saipan co-president Reinalynn Attao said the club hosted a “Trunk-or-Treat” at Bank of Saipan during the Halloween season.
“We actually wanted to do this with Bank of Saipan because they helped us with our ‘Trunk or Treat’ [event]…. That was a success, so we decided to collaborate with ‘Toys for Tots.’ This is our first year doing anything as a car club. Our turnouts have been good so far,” she said.
She said the car club donated several toy cars, as well as several puzzles and dolls.
The car club wishes children and their families a safe and happy holiday, she added.
The “Toys for Tots” program is a charitable initiative hosted by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, providing toys to underprivileged children during the Christmas holiday season.
It was established in 1947 and to date, has distributed over 600 million toys to nearly 300 million children.
2021 marks the program’s seventh year in the Commonwealth, and its 12th year on Guam.
In 2019, over 2,100 toys were collected in the CNMI and over 8,100 on Guam, all of which were distributed to over 5,300 children on Guam, Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
