EUCON International School is proud to announce that Amber Mengloi Smith has been selected as the first recipient of the Indigenous Scholarship Program for Junior High School students. As part of EUCON International School’s newly launched Indigenous Special Scholarship Program, Amber represents the bright future of CNMI’s youth — one grounded in compassion, academic excellence, leadership, and a deep commitment to community.

At just 13 years old, Amber has already made an extraordinary impact. A student at Hopwood Middle School, she is known for her academic diligence, leadership skills, and, most remarkably, her maturity and compassion. In one particularly moving instance, Amber courageously supported and intervened in the lives of five peers who were experiencing suicidal thoughts, guiding them toward safety, hope, and professional help. Her teachers unanimously describe her as a student with an uncommon sense of responsibility and a heart for others.

“Amber is more than a student — she is a difference-maker,” said Dr. Christian Wei, president of EUCON. “Her strength, wisdom, and servant’s heart at such a young age inspired us all. We are honored to support her journey with this scholarship.”

More than a scholarship — a call to a generation

Amber’s scholarship essay moved the selection committee with her words:

“I want to grow not just as a student, but as a person…I won’t take it for granted. I will show up, stay focused, and give my full effort in every class, every assignment, and every challenge,” she said.

Her teachers, Henry M. Iguel Jr. and Leora Ngirablosch, affirmed Amber’s remarkable character and academic promise in their glowing letters of recommendation. Amber has served as Student Council Secretary, excelled in Science and Art competitions, and actively participated in Junior JROTC, SOS (Suicide Prevention Club), and Theater Club — balancing all these with humility and a quiet strength.

Applications still open — scholarships available

EUCON’s Indigenous Special Scholarship Program continues to accept applications from CNMI’s Chamorro, Carolinian, and other indigenous youth. There are 80 full scholarships available across elementary, junior high, and high school divisions.

This is more than just financial support — it is a vision to rebuild CNMI from the ground up by investing in the next generation. EUCON believes that academic foundation, moral strength, and leadership training must start early, and this program is EUCON’s commitment to that vision.

“We call on the community — parents, leaders, and educators — to help identify more students like Amber,” said EUCON President Dr. Christian Wei. “Our doors are open. The future of CNMI starts with them.”
