DataDot anti-theft technology now available on Saipan

An anti-theft security identification system that uses DataDots to protect your assets from theft, or have your stolen assets recovered and returned to you, is finally available on Saipan.

Greg Gothard, general manager business development for DataDot Technology Ltd. who was on Saipan yesterday said that they had been working with Crime Stoppers, law enforcement resources, businesses and individuals and distributing the DataDot products in 23 countries for the past 15 years.

Gothard said that this is their first market expansion to Micronesia.

“In places where property crime is rampant, this is where our product comes in,” he said. He added that the response has been very positive in Micronesia.

How it works

DataDots are microscopic discs that contain unique information that is linked to your business equipment and your business, or your personal things and valuables. The dots are very small, like a grain of sand which you mix with an adhesive and spray on to your assets.

The application process is really simple. Mix the dots with the adhesive and sprinkle it on your valuable items, and it can be covert or overt application.

Hundreds and thousands of DataDots are brushed or sprinkled in your valuables including your cars, heavy plant machinery, bicycles and scooters, marine property, tools, things in your home, personal belongings like laptops, cellphones, jewelry, watches, and anything else and on things and equipment in your office premises, and each DataDot contains a unique code that is stored on a secure database and can be accessed by the police if your property is stolen.

Gothard said that it is very hard or impossible to locate and remove the DataDots and this is a deterrent for thieves to sell your property without the fear of getting caught.

When you buy the DataDot security, you will be given a unique Personal Identification Number which you will register in the global website against your driver’s license and other documents, so that if you lose something, you will be tracked as the rightful owner.

Gothard said that the registration of your PIN ensures that police can identify you as the true owner of an asset.

“The DataDots are barely visible to the human eye but they can be detected by a UV light and magnifying device,” he said.

Smaller stickers are available which you can stick on your items, as well as a big sticker which you can place on your front door.

“The stickers are really hard to get off and this should be a deterrent to tell thieves that everything in your place is marked, and if they steal anything from there, they will be traced and arrested,” Gothard said.

Gothard said that they use the product to at least 130,000 cars a year to prevent theft in the mainland.

Benefits of DataDot

Gothard said DataDot is very affordable but the benefits are great.

The product is not only cost-effective but easy to apply, and you can get peace of mind because if your valuables or business equipment is stolen, its ownership is easily traceable via the secure DataDotDNA database.

Delta Management Corporation-Saipan under its president Jim Arenovski has been appointed as the distributor for DataDot here.

Arenovski said that DataDot is very affordable for businesses and individuals, is a great fit for the islands and can take a large bite out of property crime.
