Local water company teams up with Alaska supplier

Company president Cecilio “Silver” Raiukiulipiy said   Marianas Water Works, since they opened in December last year, has been providing water treatment and other services to both commercial and private establishments on island.

Marianas Water Works established a partnership with  Frontier Supply last July, making accessible more supplies made in the U.S. to comply with requirements for specific government projects, especially those funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Raiukiulipiy said Frontier Supply provides water treatment supplies for military facilities for the past years in Alaska. The company opened its office on Guam last year, and now works is now being represented by Marianas Water Works in the CNMI.

Raiukiulipiy said  they provide water treatment services and other water supplies for most of the major hotels on island, several restaurants, drinking water companies, government agencies such as the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., and private residences.

“For hotels and restaurants, we check the quality of their drinking water once a day because safety of the drinking water is very important,” he said.

Maintenance for swimming pools is also being conducted at least twice a week.

Raiukiulipiy said since the Safe Drinking Water Act was implemented in the CNMI in 2006, the government has been very strict in seeing to it that businesses provide safe drinking water to their customers.

“We don’t bottle or sell water. What our company does is go around checking the safety of drinking water and providing water treatments,” he said.

Water, Raiukiulipiy said, is the essence of life, and it needs to be safe.

“We need water to drink and to take a bath and we need to see to it that what we are using is safe water,” he said.

To keep up with the latest developments in the industry, Raiukiulipiy said they attend certification training sessions for water operators every three months.

“We have to keep updated on the latest techniques because we are dealing with something that is very important for the safety of the people,” Raiukiulipiy said.

He said besides being a certified water treatment and distributor operator, Marianas Water Works is also a certified hazmat handling and transportation entitty, a member of the Mariana Islands Water Operator Association, and a wastewater treatment operator.

Raiukiulipiy assures all clients that the chemicals they transport and use to treat water systems comply with the standards required by the Division of Environmental Quality.

Marianas Water Works also offers reverse osmosis system installation and repair works, water filtration and softening systems, pool supplies and maintenance, water treatment consultations, and water pumps supplies and repair.

Raiukiulipiy said next month, they are scheduled to clean up the 20-million gallon reservoir at the Saipan international airport. They are also involved in the road projects in San Vicente and in Garapan.

Raiukiulipiy said he and his two other certified water operators in the company have their hands full serving the needs of the people in the CNMI, but being on call 24 hours a day is no problem as long as they are assured the people are using and drinking safe water.

Raiukiulipiy has been working for a water treatment company since 1995 until he decided to open up his own business last year.

If you want to be sure that what you are drinking and using is safe water, visit the Marianas Water Works at its office located near Sun Leader store in San Antonio. For estimates or inquiries, call Raiukiulipiy at 285-4091.
