Editorial: The Inkling

If there are people in Palau – especially now that rumors abound of candidates who have amplified their interests and use money as just one of the “acceptable” communication devices  – who have heard money talk; and that they had listened and abided by what money said, they need to get counseling.  I’d like to believe that they are high on something so that personnel of Bedochel could come and rescue them.  Otherwise, I hope that their relatives seek professional psychiatric counseling for them from the Ministry of Health.  I am 100% sure that – after counseling and a number of shots – they would not suffer from withdrawal syndromes after the election and the four years after.

Contrary to the belief that “money talks” the money that I earn or is given to me begins growing legs before it lands in my hands.  The moment it touches my hands, its legs would have developed to that of a committed walk-a-thon athlete; and it begins to walk away.  On many occasions, I have tried to tie its legs.  I have learned that it begins to grow extremely sharp teeth that can cut and severe not only power, water, and communication lines, but also the invisible connections to relatives – including the in-laws.  So, I have, for the most part, let it walk; and I must add that I have not had any regrets – so far.My money has been walking freely – sometimes it returns and at other times it drowns in turbid waters.  As much as possible, I ignore the drowning for fear of raising the dead.  I am, I suppose, a spiritual person and consider drowned money an offering to the dead – the ones who don’t think. If there are candidates out there who are attempting to make their money talk for them, I have this to say to you.  I would rather listen to your hoopla – the preferred term is slightly too harsh for politics and you might get offended.  I would much rather you tell me what you have done and what you intend to do to make money walk our way – not away. And for the rest of us, let money walk.  If you think you heard money talk, you are a commodity – up for sale at a very cheap price.  If you consider yourself a sellable item, ask for a little more than $20.00 – go for at least a million if you are single and a billion if you are married.  Let the candidates run without you in their shopping carts. If you find yourself hearing money, be alert.  It is just the “pocket change” that is being rattled – copperheads in our midst.
