Over the last several years I have had the great good fortune to give historical tours of Tinian to a wide variety of visitors. They have invariably asked me to congratulate whomever is responsible for maintaining Tinian’s historic sites. Those accolades were particularly strong this last year, because our guests were well aware of the damage done to Tinian by Super Typhoon Yutu.
In light of the anticipated opening of the Tinian ferry boat service, with roll-on; roll-off capability, we can expect a significant influx of “day-packs” from Saipan to Tinian. Visitors arriving from Saipan in their own vehicle will want to visit not only the sites managed by Tinian MVA, but also those not within the current purview of the Tinian MVA team. It would be in the best interest of MVA and the people of Tinian to provide Tinian MVA with the additional manpower, equipment and supplies they need to manage an expanded responsibility. Vida and the Tinian MVA team have demonstrated that they use their resources wisely. Giving them more support for an enlarged responsibility now will help generate more revenues for tomorrow.
