According to Mr. Riwa Satou, the group has visited Saipan annually, but this was the first time that they had visited Tinian. The group discussed about war and how innocent people died because of it. They also discussed with students about how everyone should work together toward peace on Earth.
Prior to the group’s visit to Tinian, Mrs. Maria T. Rios, TES principal, had received a telephone call, informing her that a group of Japanese would be visiting TES and would be donating $1,000 dollars for instructional materials. In order to accommodate the needs of all students, Mrs. Rios decided that the money would be used to purchase sports equipment, as the school has very little.
With the funding limitations from our local government, this was truly a blessing for Tinian Elementary School. The students now have the equipment they need for physical education. The equipment chosen includes the following: badminton, croquet, baseball bats and balls, Hula Hoops, volleyballs, soccer balls, ping-pong sets, Frisbees and marker cones for the athletic field.
Student representatives from each grade level were chosen to receive the gifts on behalf of their class. The staff, students and parents of Tinian Elementary School would like to express our sincere and deepest Thank You, Sen Dankulu Na Si Yu’us Ma’asi and Domo Arigato for the “Heiwa O Inoru Chisan Kyokai” group and their members:
