I traveled to Washington, D.C. in December of last year and hand delivered your signature to then-Council on Environmental Quality Chairman James L. Connaughton. The results of our grassroots efforts are now a part of history.
On Jan. 6, 2009, then-President Bush declared the Marianas Trench Marine National Monument, one of the largest protected areas on the face of the planet.
This would not have happened had it not been for your participation. I have thanked you before and I have to thank you again for your support.
This year provides another opportunity to exercise your rights as an American citizen, because 2009 is an election year.
