You the people have voted no to the casino twice. But I guess the good speaker does not understand what the word no means. He is trying to tell everyone all the wonderful things that a casino will do for the CNMI. Just stop and think about it. Has he done any market research? What are the results of the research?
When things sound too good to be true, they are. It looks to me that the only people that are going to benefit from the casino are the speaker and his partners. Have you noticed that now he is getting desperate. He is threatening to fire workers if he does not get his way. That would be a good thing if he could fire the 297 people that the governor hired to win the election.
People of the CNMI you must remember that the government works for you. You put elected officials in office and you can make them out of office. If you are as opposed to the casino as I am, please, pick up the phone and call your elected rep. and tell them that enough is enough. Remind them who they are supposed to work for: the residents of the CNMI, not some special interest group.
New topic. Some time ago I wrote a letter about the streetlights. Mr. Malae responded saying basically that I did not know what I was talking about. Well, let’s take a look at it. He stated that the mercury lights were old technology. Well that is true but the reason that they are still around is because they work. He says that they are going to save us money. This is where he loses me. They intend to change over to LED lights. So why are they wasting money fooling with the sodium lights?
What he did not explain to the people is that to change from mercury to sodium light you have to change the fixture. So not only do you have to buy a more expensive bulb, you have to buy a new fixture to put the bulb in.
Now if you plan to replace them anyway is it not a waste of money to change them now? He stated that the mercury lights were made in the Third World. Well it so happens that the mercury and the sodium bulbs are both made by General Electric in a plant in Hungary.
The governor stated that they were changing the bulbs to get mercury off the island. Well they need to read the packing label on the sodium bulbs. There is a warning label. “Contains Mercury.” Is it any surprise that our utility rates are so high with this kind of leadership?
Mr. Malae if you wish to respond, sick to facts and figures. Not smart remarks about a clueless utility. The only clueless utility that I know is the one you are the director of.
If you want to see how this administration is wasting our money, come north and take a look at La Fiesta. It will make you sick to see what a mess it is.
Members of MVA, I want you to go to the airport at three in the morning when a tourist flight is coming in. The arrival area used to be very simple. You pulled in, loaded your baggage and got out. Well someone had a better idea. Now the tourists have to drag their baggage to the bus parking area. Welcome to Saipan! I hope you are in good condition or you may have a problem. Is this the way we try to attract people to the Iiland?
As usual the ideas presented are mine and mine alone. But please think it over.
