5 gift ideas for the young, stumped and unemployed

Fortunately for you, not every person in the world is expecting an iPhone this holiday season. In fact, some of the best Christmas gifts require neither a fat paycheck nor a deep knowledge of your recipient’s personal taste. All you need are a couple dollar bills, some fancy-looking bows and gift wrap, and enough energy to ask your parents to drive you to the stores I’m about to mention below. Ah, I can feel the holiday spirit already…

Gift Idea #1 – Money

So this gift is (obviously) a bit pricy, but it sure is the most practical gift on this list. Why risk choosing the wrong present when you can give your loved one the gift of the freedom to choose? It’s only common sense… and only $20. $10 if you’re that broke.

Where to buy: The National Bank of Mom and Dad

Gift idea #2 –  Jewelry

Think about it: what girl doesn’t love diamonds, fake or real? And what guy doesn’t wanna’ rock a little bling every now and then? Again, jewelry isn’t exactly dirt cheap, but it surely  never gets old.

Where to buy: Surf Turf Saipan; their basic silver pieces are appropriate for both genders and just about any personality or style

Gift idea #3 – Jogging buddy

Nobody wants to burn off Christmas dinner alone —  be a source of motivation for one of your peers and volunteer yourself to burn calories alongside them over the holiday break. It’s healthy and free (and will benefit you, too!).

Where to buy: Did I mention this gift was free?

Gift idea #4 – Chocolate

Unless the recipient of your gift is one of the few oddballs who despise chocolate, give them chocolate! Girls crave it, boys (secretly) love it, and even if they don’t eat it right away, it can be saved in case the new year brings new heartbreak.

Where to buy: If you’re really raking in the dough, feel free to buy your loved ones a box of Godiva chocolates from DFS. If not, then your next best bet is Expressions, where you can purchase some heavenly chocolate truffles. These rich, chocolaty treats come in various flavors and go for less than three dollars apiece. Plus they come in cute little bags…  You     can’t possibly go wrong with them!

Gift idea #5 – Handmade cards

If you truly believe that it’s the thought that counts, then handmade cards are the way to go. While it would be less of a hassle to just buy a card and write a little note inside it, handmade cards allow for more of a personal touch. Also, a handmade card shows your recipient that you took the time out to create something for them, that you were thoughtful enough to wish them a Merry Christmas. Personalized presents never fail to make a person feel flattered, important, and above all, loved. And who doesn’t want to feel some love this Christmas?

Where to buy: If you’re thinking of making cards, I highly recommend going to Expressions,     where an entire corner is devoted to stationery items. Their pretty patterned paper (which go for around a dollar each) and holiday-themed stickers are perfect for making the most charming and thoughtful Christmas cards.
