E-Land hosts ‘hangout’ with Center for Living Independently

THE Center for Living Independently in the CNMI and the E-Land Group on Friday made coasters from upcycled sea glass, one of four activities planned for the benefit of individuals with disabilities.

The arts and crafts activity allowed staff and clients to “hang out” at the center on Capital Hill,  E-Land Group corporate social responsibility manager Lindsay Ahn said.

She added that  E-Land Group wanted to engage with the community in a way that was less like volunteering and more like hanging out.

The other activities include cooking and gardening which many individuals at the center enjoy doing.

Ahn said the activities help support the center’s goal to help individuals with disabilities learn practical skills.

She said her personal long-term goal is to have the people at the center sell their arts and crafts to tourists, with the profits going right back to the center.

She wants to see people at the center make their own souvenirs, earn funds for the center, and further learn how to live independently through the skills they obtain.

The center’s executive director, Susan Satur, said it has been a pleasure to work with the E-Land Group.

“They are really trying to help our community, especially our disabilities community, and we’re very appreciative of that,” she said.

The E-Land Group operates Kensington Hotel Saipan, Pacific Islands Club, and Coral Ocean Golf Resort.

The Center for Living Independently in the CNMI is a nonprofit organization run by and for individuals with disabilities, and is dedicated to assisting people with disabilities to live independently.
