(MVA) — A male chorus group from Japan will arrive in the Marianas on Monday, July 17, to perform at World War II memorial sites on Saipan and Tinian.
The visiting group is comprised of 20 members of Roppongi Male Chorus ZIG-ZAG which consists of politicians, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, artists, and other famous individuals. They have performed in the Philippines, Palau, Marshall Islands, and other countries around the world to honor the war dead of World War II.
“We’re very pleased to welcome ZIG-ZAG to the Marianas for this poetic tribute to those who lost their lives on Saipan and Tinian during the war,” said Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Christopher A. Concepcion. “Our islands are now a place of healing, peace, and rejuvenation, and these performances of honor reflect that. We are grateful for their visit.”
The first performance will be late Monday morning at 11 a.m. at the site of the Japanese era Donne Field Hospital on Mt. Tapochau, weather dependent. Additional performances will be held at 2 p.m. at Jigokudani, also known as Hell Valley, followed by a third performance at the Central Pacific Veterans Monument at Last Command Post in Marpi at 3:30 p.m. A performance will also be held on Tinian on Tuesday, July 18, afternoon tentatively beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Banzai Cliff at Puntan Carolinas.
