MVA to sponsor Flame Tree Arts Festival

THE Marianas Visitors Authority board of directors unanimously approved sponsoring this year’s Flame Tree Arts Festival.

During a recent meeting, MVA Managing Director Priscilla Iakopo told the board that the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture had informed MVA “that this year’s Flame Tree Arts Festival is a go, and [the council] is looking forward to continuing its partnership with MVA for a successful turnout.”

According to Iakopo she received a letter from the Commonwealth Council of Arts and Culture.

“They announced that they will be having the Flame Tree Arts Festival this month. MVA has always joined them in ensuring that the annual Fame Tree Arts Festival is successful and this year, they are actually asking us once again to help them financially with the sponsorship,” she said.

She sought the board’s approval to provide $10,000 to the event.

“We definitely want to provide them the $10,000,” she said, adding that the funding is “coming out of [our] marketing recovery program.”

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic the annual event was not held in 2020 and 2021.

The annual Flame Tree Arts Festival is the CNMI’s largest annual event that celebrates the diverse art and cultural heritage of the Commonwealth. It also features artwork from artists on and off-island, and showcases presentations of local and guest performing arts.

This year’s festival will be held from April 29 to May 1 at the Sugar King Park in China Town.
