During a Summer Reading Program presentation day at Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, Marlyn C. Naputi, coral reef initiative communications coordinator with the Division of Coastal Resources Management, talked about coral reefs and why they are important and should be protected.
THE Joeten-Kiyu Public Library invites children six to 12 years old to take part in the Bookmobile 2023 Summer Reading Program from June 28 to July 21.
The program is an opportunity for children to build literacy skills and take part in fun and educational lessons.
Parents may register their children now. Registration will close when each session reaches 40 participants.
The Bookmobile 2023 Summer Reading Program takes place at the following four locations:
• Tanapag Youth Center from June 28 to 30
• Kagman Community Center from July 5 to 7
• Carolinian Utt/Pavilion from July 12 to 14
• Fernando M. Benavente Memorial Library in San Antonio, from July 19 to 21
Omar Manacop, JKPL’s systems librarian, said children who are registered by their parents will take part in a variety of lessons that will develop them intellectually.
Manacop said the program has scheduled daily reading challenges, guest speakers, painting activities, science lessons, computer lessons, arts and crafts activities, and more.
The Bookmobile will be on site with books to loan.
Manacop said breakfast is available for participants.
Participating children must be library-card holders with no fines. Children can sign up for a library card in person with their parent at JKPL in Susupe. The library requires a picture I.D. and proof of address, such as a utility bill.
Erlinda Naputi, the library director, said during summer, when they are not in school, children can experience drastic declines in their literacy ability.
She said the Bookmobile 2023 Summer Reading Program is part of JKPL’s efforts to help prevent youth reading loss.
