(Press Release) — Saipan filmmaker Elijah Joshua Pajarillaga will premiere a new film, “Steps on the Shore” which he wrote, directed, and starred in, on Monday, August 8, at Hollywood Theaters. The film follows a high school graduate during his last days on island before heading off to college as he grapples with lingering conflicts involving family and his sense of belonging to the island.

Pajarillaga is a son of the Marianas who graduated in 2021 from Grace Christian Academy and is currently pursuing a film degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. At Wesleyan, he has also been a videographer for the university’s communications department and the women’s volleyball team.
In preparing for his summer break back home, Pajarillaga felt it was important to tell a story that resonates with him and many of his peers. Pajarillaga said, “This film has allowed me to rediscover the beauty of my home.” He also noted, “More importantly, the film enabled me to confront fears and doubts I had about filmmaking.”
The film was produced by Northern Marianas College president and local filmmaker, Galvin Deleon Guerrero. As Deleon Guerrero put it, “It is great to see up and coming young filmmakers like Elijah who are committed to giving voice to the struggles of his generation.” He added, “This is a touching film that exudes authenticity and warmth. I urge everyone to come see it.”
“Steps on the Shore” will be screened at Hollywood Theaters on Monday, August 8, at 8 pm. Admission is $5 and tickets may be purchased at the door.
