THE Saipan Pacific Winds Concert Band has canceled its annual Christmas concert, but it will upload videos of its musical performances on its Facebook page and YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/c/SaipanPacificWindsConcertBand
There will a total of nine videos, the last of which will be posted on Christmas Eve.
Four pieces will be performed by 11 members of the Saipan Junior Band, and five by the 20 members of the Saipan Pacific Winds or SPW.
On its Facebook page, SPW said it had to cancel the concert because of the continued increase in the number of Covid-19 cases on island.
“This pandemic definitely affects us [and we have to] limit what we can do. However, we always try to find a way we can share music with the community,” SPW president Atsuko Eck said.
“Nothing is better than live performance,” Eck said, “so we are planning to have more events next year. Hopefully we can invite the community to some of our future events.”
While viewing their performances on YouTube is free, SPW is accepting donations through Paypal at saipanpacificwinds@gmail.com
Eck said they need funds to buy new sheet music, and help maintain their percussion instruments, including replacing broken parts, among other things.
