Seafix lends hand to save green sea turtles

Last week, Seafix responded to Marianas Islands Nature Alliance’s call for help when the steel gate at Wing Beach in San Roque was found broken.

The gate was built along the trail halfway to the designated parking lot  in 2005.

The steel gate was supposed to prevent driving on the beach which has been identified as a nesting ground for green sea turtles.

MINA secretary Reina Camacho said they received an e-mail from a concerned citizen who noticed that the steel gate was torn down.

Somebody deliberately rammed the gate open in order to  park on the beach.

MINA then approached  businesses for  help.

Seafix general manager Mark Blackburn sent his staff members Leo Salvador and Bobby Lozano to the area where they fixed the gate.

MINA would like to thank Seafix for its support and concern for the environment, Camacho said.

MINA will go after the people who don’t care for the environment, she added.

She said there are signs in the area that explain why the gate is there, so there’s no excuse for anybody not to know that driving on the beach is prohibited.

Wing Beach, Camacho added, is for everybody — including  the animals that dwell there.
