Senior citizens showcase talents

SENIOR citizens held a concert at the multi-purpose center on Friday to showcase their singing, dancing and acting talents.

“I am so impressed,” Office on Aging Director Walter Manglona said after the event.

He said the goal is to allow the senior citizens to share their talents with the community.

“As you can see, they are very talented, and very energetic,” he added. “This is something they want to do — to be able to promote culture.”

Manglona encourages senior citizens to continue to stay active and healthy “for as long as time allows.”

He said the manamko’ are diverse but united. “As you can see, we have all kinds of ethnic groups here and we appreciate that when they come to the Manamko’ Center, we are all one. And that’s unity and that is one thing we encourage,” he added.

Vicente S. Basa, 71, sang with a band and performed “oldies but goodies” songs.

In an interview after his performance, Basa said he considers the Manamko’ Center “our highest and final school in life, and when you graduate, you go to heaven.”

Basa said even without performing in a  concert, just being with his fellow senior citizens “is just so beautiful.”

“I love them — they are nice people,” he added.

He said  they are getting to know each other better every day.

During the concert, he said he felt good as they did what they could.

He is already looking forward to their next concert.

“I enjoyed it very much and I am so happy to see everyone happy,” he said.

Cynthia Attao, who had just turned 60, was scheduled to perform a solo dance number, but the rest of the senior citizens ended up joining her on stage.

“I feel good because of the concert tonight. I danced. I feel happy,” Attao said.
