She became an official member on June 28.
The society, which was formed in 2002, seeks to recognize academic excellence at the high school level. There are currently more than 530,000 society members in over 160 countries.
Being a member, Yarobwemal is now entitled to an assortment of benefits. To name a few, she will have access to scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, member-only resources, publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners of the Society, and online forums.
Yarobwemal believes it was the classes she took that helped her gain eligibility for this honor.
She took pre-honors English during her sophomore year and has signed up to take more honors classes throughout her upcoming junior year.
She says since this is an academic honor, one must keep a high grade point average to be considered for membership.
The 16-year-old is excited about scholarships. “I think being a part of the society will look really good on the applications for scholarships and colleges.”
She advises any student who receives a letter of invitation to accept the calling and “try it out.”
In regards to why school is so important to her, the scholar says, “I really want to make my parents proud and do well.”
