But not everything vanished with the end of the garment era. The memories stay behind, both for the residents who experienced Saipan’s heydays and for the garment factory workers.
Behind each sewing machine, behind each piece of cloth and woven into each strand of thread produced from over 30 garment factories are untold stories of the workers who labored morning till night to earn better wages and give their families better lives back home.
Among the thousands of workers who contributed to Saipan’s abundance in the past decade, a young lady comes out and records all the joys, sadness, thoughts, feelings and everything that makes her and the rest of the garment factory workers tick.
The lady, Chun Yu Wang comes out with “Chicken Feathers and Garlic Skin”, a 196-page book depicting the life of a Chinese garment factory girl on Saipan.
Chicken Feathers and Garlic Skin brings you into the author’s nine-year journey in Saipan as a factory worker, candidly bringing to life all the untold experiences and stories of a garment factory worker.
The book came out in February this year, published by the Passion Profit Company in New York.
