I and a buddy proceeded to the farthest end of Smiling Cove on Saturday, following the directions given earlier by Saipan Sea Ventures president Miki Pellegrino. We found where the Puti’on Saipan, the dinner cruise loveboat was docked, swaying to the gentle lapping of the waves.
The crewmembers were busily carting in trays of food and preparing the tables for the guests. Very soon, it was boarding time. The crew led by Henry Baylon assisted the guests to the tables reserved for them. To our delight, we were assigned a table on the deck.
The crew got busy serving everybody drinks of their choice — juice, soda, or beer.
The crew kept our glasses filled every time they get empty. As it was still too hot, the guests listened to the tunes of Japanese, English, and local songs performed by singer Albert Vitug.
Dinner was delicious. The ladies — Vangie, Edna and Nica — served corn soup before we partook of a wide selection of delectable dishes: salads, appetizers, and the main courses of chicken and beef capped by fresh fruits for dessert.
The deck was filled with guests who watched the magnificent sunset that streaked the horizon with red and orange. Cameras clicked as tourists took souvenir photos.
After dinner, the guests were treated to a cultural dance presentation by island dancers.
Very soon, it was time to go back to the dock, but for the guests, the memory of cruising Saipan lagoon, partaking a sumptuous dinner to the strains of music while witnessing a wonderful sunset was one beautiful experience they would take home with them to treasure.
The Pution Saipan “love boat” can accommodate over 140 individuals and it sails at 5:30 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays.
Providing adventure and entertainment to thousands of local and international guests since 1984, Saipan Sea Ventures also offers sailing, dolphin watching, family fishing, and trolling.
Nestor Fuentes, a crew member, said Saipan Sea Ventures operates seven boats to cater to the needs of clients. These boats include the double-decker vessel that heads to Managaha every day.
