The training is designed to give participants the confidence to respond in emergency situations with skills that can save a life. It is open to the public but is limited to 100 individuals.
The training will focus on adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator or AED, safety health coordinator Gio Muna said.
“There will be video presentations on CPR and AED which participants can learn from, but they will get hands-on training, too,” Muna said.
An AED is a small, lightweight device used to assess a person’s heart rhythm and administers an electric shock to restore a normal rhythm in victims of sudden cardiac arrest when necessary. AED use is taught in many first aid, first responder and basic life support classes.
The fee is only $5 and participants will be given certificates after the training.
“We are encouraging the public to join this training and call us to register because we will close the registration as soon as we reach the maximum number of participants,” Muna said.
Other training sessions scheduled for this month include infant and child CPR on June 12, adult CPR training on June 15, introduction to disaster services on June 16, fundamental disaster assessment on June 21, and first aid training on June 22.
